Nola Caye
Located in New Orleans. Whether you’re a resident, or a tourist - you can’t go wrong with this restaurant. Personally, it’s one of my favorite (top 3) brunch spots in the city. And what’s even better? They offer brunch DAILY. Yup. Daily. 11am-4pm. Their bottomless mimosas feature a variety of different tropical flavors. The food menu is Caribbean inspired, featuring dishes ranging from Ahi Tuna, to Braised Oxtail. So the next time you’re in town or looking for a brunch spot - don’t hesitate to make a reservation here. They’re popping so book ahead of time!

Yardbird
Located in Miami, Vegas, Dallas, D.C., & L.A. 4 words - Caviar. Topped. Deviled. Eggs. I mean like, what?! When you’re in one of these cities, Yardbird is worth a stop for brunch, lunch or dinner. So far, I’ve visited Yardbird in Miami & Dallas. They’re most commonly known for their Fried Chicken (and watermelon). I know what you’re thinking but - trust me. It is worth noting that they do not offer bottomless mimosas for brunch. But the appetizers are off the chain. I could eat those deviled eggs every. single. day.

Rock Steady
Located in Atlanta. Rock Steady! OMG where do I start?! You want food + vibes? This is your spot. After a forced hurricane evacuation I ended up in Atlanta and booked an impromptu reservation here for my birthday. When I tell you it was perfect. Their entire menu is perfectly curated, from the drinks, to the appetizers and the entrees. I’m a sucker for a whole fish. So you already know that’s what I got. Haitian Whole Fried Snapper. 4 months later, I’m still thinking about it. My plate was LOADED. Whole fried fish, Haitian black rice, and plantains. Let me just tell you right now, despite the fact I devoured many appetizers. There was nothing left on that plate, I think that speaks for itself. Check them out. ASAP.

Fixins Soul Kitchen
Located in Los Angeles. I’ve definitely been on a mission to explore as many black owned restaurants in LA as possible. Fixins so far is one of my favorites for a couple reasons. For starters, I moved here from New Orleans, affordable QUALITY soul food was available literally on every corner. That’s obviously not the case here, but Fixins hits the nail on the head with their menu and prices. If I’m ever in the mood for some soul food that I didn’t have to make for myself, this is my spot! It’s close too so that obviously doesn’t hurt either. Plus, they offer dinner and brunch. Brunch is a hit and often features some of my favorite DJ’s! (@djchubbeswag) What’s not to love?! Their oxtail is really good and a good portion for the price. The menu also features deep fried deviled eggs, best thing I never knew I needed. You can wash down your meal with some adult kool-aid!

Beauty & Essex LA
Located in Los Angeles. I don’t know if it’s just me but the older I get, the more I’m down for just enjoying a really nice dinner for New Year’s Eve. This year, the girls and I opted in to the early NYE sitting at Beauty and Essex. I was skeptical about this one, I’ve heard mixed reviews so I expected it to be one of those more vibesy places. But to my surprise, it was such a great experience! We had an amazing server, I can’t remember his name :( but he was from New Jersey so bonus points for that of course. He made great recommendations and also gave us a champagne toast. We started with a bunch of appetizers, my favorite were the grilled cheese & tomato soup dumplings and raw oysters. Fun fact, I love grilled cheese. But these dumplings were GENIUS. Honestly, I could’ve eaten 3 orders by myself as my meal lmao. Our entrees were great another standout was the Mexican Street Corn Ravioli. Cheers to Beauty & Essex for a fantastic final meal of 2022!

Openaire
Located in Los Angeles. Beautiful rooftop, greenhouse vibes. The aesthetic is super cute and perfect for brunch. Bottomless is expensive ($40/pp for 1 hour 15 mins or something like that) which I thought was random, like why not a full hour and a half at least - if you’re not going to do 2 hours. But what’s it to me? I’m not a big mimosa gal. Champagne + OJ is really not nice to my acid reflux LOL. My girls and I had espresso martinis which were really good. Anyways, let’s get to the food. I really appreciated the wide variety of offerings on the menu. My friend and I were torn between the same two entrees so we shared the cornflake crusted french toast & hibachi grilled flat iron steak w/ eggs, kimchi rice and added lobster. When I tell you I cleared both plates, lmao. Loved the spin on your average steak and eggs. The kimchi rice was definitely a hit! Service was pretty good, our server was really busy but the manager and other staff checked in often. Definitely looking forward to checking it out again for lunch or dinner!

Cara Restaurant
Located in Los Angeles. Cara has yet to let me down! The ambiance is gorgeous, the restaurant is set inside the Cara Hotel courtyard featuring a large pool and beautiful lights. Perfect for a girls night or date night! For appetizers, I’ve tried the Hamachi Crudo and Proscuitto & Buratta. Both were great, I could’ve probably ate 3 plates of the Hamachi Crudo even though that defeats the purpose. Prosciutto & Burrata are two of my favorite things, so really can’t go wrong there. The rack of lamb, CHEFS KISS. I’m a big lamb girl but I hesitate sometimes if I’m not confident the restaurant will pull it off but the lamb is perfect and the whipped potatoes that come with it are some of the best potatoes I’ve ever had. Honestly, I’ve been working on replicating them at home lmao.

Ysabel
Located in Los Angeles. People say that LA doesn’t have good food. Honestly this is a recurring narrative I’ve heard for years. As a major foodie, it made me hesitant about moving here - but what I’ve learned is that a lot of LA restaurants prioritize aesthetic over ya know, food. A lot of places have great vibes + ambiance, and food is average. BUT, that’s absolutely not the case with Ysabel. It’s a very aesthetically pleasing restaurant that serves GREAT food and drinks. I cannot put into words the level of appreciation I have for the Yukon Gold Potato Pasta. It is creative and delicious. The oxtail ragu filling is perfect and the portion is generous.
